A message from the author:
Why this special edition?

     "Does God still heal today?"

    That question became urgent when my husband's physician pronounced, "A virulent form of cancer. No hope."

    My quest for the answer turned into an awesome spiritual journey that the Lord led me to put on paper. Thus, in 1982, The Healing was born.

    And the answer? Yes! Oh, yes! A thousand times yes! God still heals today—physically, mentally, spiritually! Twenty-seven years after that grim prognosis, Joe is alive and doing remarkably well. We are eternally grateful.

    But equally remarkable is what God did for me. Observers say I became a butterfly. Formerly bound in a cocoon of long-standing insecurities, my learning of His deep love caused me to burst forth into a freedom I had never known.

    Why is this important? Research has found that the spouse of a cancer patient might need more follow-up care than the patient. That makes my message in The Healing—the possibility of invaluable spiritual growth—take on new significance.

    So why this special edition? It is for you. You with a dreaded diagnosis. You with a loved one in jeopardy. You who hunger for a deeper, richer spiritual life. Others have found sustenance within these pages. I pray the same for you.

    My hope is that within our story, you will find strength and encouragement for whatever crisis you face. Above all, I pray your faith will grow and that Jesus Christ will become very dear to you—and near to you.

    "Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit" (Romans 15:13).
